Table of Contents
Short answer: Yes, one US spot Litecoin ETF trades today: the Canary Litecoin ETF (LTCC) on Nasdaq, with a 0.95% fee. It held $8.56 million in net assets on 22 Sep 2026, backed by about 136,292 LTC, according to the issuer. The larger Grayscale Litecoin Trust (LTCN) holds about $82 million but still trades over the counter at a 2.5% fee; its conversion to an NYSE Arca ETF was refiled on 11 Sep 2026 and still waits on SEC sign-off. CoinShares withdrew its filing and REX-Osprey’s planned fund never launched. Litecoin itself traded at $60.83 on 23 Sep 2026 (CoinGecko), 85% below its 2021 high.
Is there a Litecoin ETF? #
There is one spot Litecoin ETF on a US exchange, one large trust waiting to convert, and two filings that went nowhere.

How big is the Canary Litecoin ETF (LTCC)? #
Small, but growing slowly. Canary seeded the trust in September 2025, when Litecoin creator Charlie Lee bought 40,000 seed shares at $25 each, according to the fund’s SEC filings. The trust began operations on 27 Oct 2025 and its first trading day and NAV were on 28 Oct 2025.
The share count, which moves only when authorised participants create or redeem baskets, is the clearest measure of demand:
| Date | Shares outstanding | Net assets |
|---|---|---|
| 28 Oct 2025 | 40,000 | $0.97M |
| 17 Nov 2025 | 350,000 | $7.88M |
| 31 Dec 2025 | 370,000 | $6.92M |
| 16 Jan 2026 | 500,000 | $9.10M |
| 31 Mar 2026 | 470,000 | $6.21M |
| 30 Jun 2026 | 520,000 | $5.30M |
| 14 Sep 2026 | 590,000 (peak) | $7.74M |
| 22 Sep 2026 | 560,000 | $8.56M |
Source: Canary daily history table and 10-Q for the quarter ended 30 Jun 2026.
On 22 Sep 2026 the NAV was $15.28 per share and the fund traded at a 0.03% discount. The issuer’s holdings file for 23 Sep showed 136,292.40 LTC against 560,000 shares.
Two things stand out. First, share count has risen from 370,000 at the end of 2025 to 560,000, so investors have added money on balance in 2026. Second, net assets have not grown much, because the LTC price fell. The 10-Q reported a NAV return of −45.48% for the first half of 2026 and −59.24% from inception to 30 Jun 2026. Paid-in capital was about $11.3 million at that date, well above net assets of $5.3 million.
When will the Grayscale Litecoin ETF launch? #
There is no date yet. Grayscale filed Amendment No. 1 to its S-3 registration on 11 Sep 2026. It would rename the trust “Grayscale Litecoin Trust ETF” and list it on NYSE Arca. NYSE Arca filed the related 19b-4 rule change on 24 Jan 2025. In the words of the amendment: “As of the date of this filing, the 19b-4 Application has not been approved by the SEC.” Grayscale says it will not seek effectiveness until that approval arrives or it is determined that approval is no longer necessary.
Key facts from Grayscale’s filings:
- Assets: net assets of $82.3 million at 30 Jun 2026, down from $175.9 million a year earlier, holding 1,969,057 LTC across 24.25 million shares.
- Fee: 2.5% a year today. The amendment leaves the future ETF fee blank, so any figure you see quoted is a guess.
- Discount: LTCN closed at $4.01 on 9 Sep 2026, an 8% discount to NAV. Since August 2020 it has averaged a 26% discount on days it traded below NAV, and it once traded at a premium of more than 5,800%.
Why it matters: an ETF can create and redeem shares daily, which normally keeps the market price close to NAV. A closed trust cannot, which is why LTCN has swung between huge premiums and deep discounts. If the conversion goes through, holders would typically see the discount narrow. Until then, LTCN is a trust with a higher fee and a pricing gap, not an ETF.
How do the SEC’s generic listing standards affect Litecoin ETFs? #
On 17 Sep 2025 the SEC approved generic listing standards for commodity-based trust shares on Nasdaq, Cboe BZX and NYSE Arca (Release No. 34-103995). Under them, an exchange can list a qualifying crypto ETP without filing a separate 19b-4 rule change. The underlying asset qualifies if it meets any one of three tests:
- It trades on a market that belongs to the Intermarket Surveillance Group.
- It underlies a futures contract that has traded on a CFTC-regulated designated contract market for at least six months, with a surveillance-sharing arrangement in place.
- An existing listed ETF gives at least 40% of its NAV exposure to it.
Litecoin appears to meet the second test. Coinbase Derivatives, a CFTC-regulated exchange, launched Litecoin futures in April 2024 according to Coinbase, well over six months before the order. The third test is also now available, since LTCC exists. This is our reading of the order, not an SEC or exchange statement: we found no official document listing LTC as eligible by name. SEC records also indicate that Nasdaq’s own 19b-4 for LTCC was withdrawn around late September 2025, which fits a listing under the generic standard, although the prospectus does not say which route was used.
The practical effect: any new spot Litecoin ETF needs mainly an effective registration statement, not a months-long rule-change process. The same standards opened the door for the US spot Solana ETFs and the US spot XRP ETFs. Grayscale’s amendment still refers to its pending 19b-4 “or” a finding that approval is unnecessary, so the exact timing remains open.
What happened to the other Litecoin ETF filings? #
CoinShares filed an S-1 for a Litecoin ETF in January 2025. On 28 Nov 2025 it filed a Form RW withdrawing the registration, stating that the transaction “was ultimately not effectuated. No shares were sold.”
REX-Osprey named a REX-Osprey LTC ETF and a T-REX 2X Long LTC Daily Target ETF in the exhibit list of a trust filing dated 27 Oct 2025. Neither had launched as of 23 Sep 2026; REX-Osprey’s lineup page lists only its SOL, XRP and DOGE funds.

| Next halving | Block 3,360,000, reward 6.25 → 3.125 LTC | Litecoin source code |
Halving. Litecoin cuts its block reward in half every 840,000 blocks. At block height 3,183,188 on 23 Sep 2026, there were about 176,800 blocks to go. At the 2.5-minute block target that points to around late July 2027. This is a projection; block times vary.
MWEB upgrades. Litecoin’s optional privacy layer, MWEB, has had a string of hardening releases in 2026. The latest, Litecoin Core v0.21.5.8, was released on 12 Sep 2026 with an MWEB validation soft fork; the release notes say upgrading is “strongly recommended”, especially for miners, pools and exchanges. It follows an urgent release in August and a security fix distributed only to mining pools. The network has kept producing blocks, but the pace of fixes is worth knowing about.
Usage. Blockchair recorded about 157,600 transactions in the 24 hours to 23 Sep 2026 and about 9.09 million addresses with a balance.
LTC rose from $51.23 on 16 Sep to $61.99 on 22 Sep, about 21%, per CoinGecko daily data. Secondary reports tied the jump to a broad market short squeeze rather than Litecoin-specific news.

Is there a Litecoin treasury stock? #
One. Lite Strategy (Nasdaq: LITS) held 819,070 LTC against 31,882,648 shares as of 17 Jul 2026, according to an exhibit to its 8-K of 30 Jul 2026. That is about 0.026 LTC per share, or roughly $1.56 of LTC per share at the 23 Sep price, before the company’s other assets and liabilities. The company said it had bought back about 4.9 million shares at an average of $1.11 since December 2025, funded by LTC sales and covered-call premiums, and that its discount to NAV had narrowed below 25%. A treasury company adds management decisions, leverage choices and share-price sentiment on top of the coin. Our guide to crypto treasury stocks explains the model.
How is a Litecoin ETF taxed in the US? #
General information, not tax advice. Shares of LTCC or LTCN are securities: selling them produces a capital gain or loss, long-term if held for more than a year. Holding the ETF inside an IRA defers or removes that tax, depending on the account type. The IRS treats Litecoin held directly as property, so selling, swapping or spending it is a taxable disposal. Trust structures like these can also create small taxable events when the trust sells coins to pay its fee; check the fund’s annual tax information.
What are the risks? #
- Closure risk. At under $10 million, LTCC is small. Funds this size can close; Bitwise is liquidating its Dogecoin ETF this October after it failed to attract assets.
- Price risk. LTC is 85% below its peak and fell 43% over the past year.
- Conversion uncertainty. LTCN’s path to NYSE Arca has no approval date, and its future fee is undisclosed.
- Network risk. The run of MWEB fixes in 2026 shows active maintenance, but also that problems were found.
